 | Dick Turpin is one of those legends which has been passed down in stories, and has become this romanticised notion of what the man was originally like. Almost a Robin Hood figure, which is far from the truth.Dict Turpin In truth, Dick Turpin was a highwayman in England in the early-1700s. He was ultimately executed for horse theft in 1739, at the ripe old age of 34. In his early life he was thought to have become a butcher, as was his father before him, before joining a gang of deer poachers in Essex - back when poaching the King's Deer was a very serious crime indeed. They soon moved on from poaching to robbery - raiding the homes and businesses of various folk: On Saturday night last, about seven o'clock, five rogues entered the house of the Widow Shelley at Loughton in Essex, having pistols &c. and threatened to murder the old lady, if she would not tell them where her money lay, [..] whereupon they went upstairs, and took near £100, a silver tankard, and other plate, and all manner of household goods. - Read's Weekly Journal (1735)Turpin was described in journals at the time as a butcher by trade; a tall fresh-coloured man, very much marked with the small pox; wears a blue grey coat and a natural wig. After the Essex gang got smashed by the authorities, it was a short step from robbery to becoming a Highwayman. It was here that his fabled reputation began, though in reality his actions were definitely not in keeping with the heroic detail of the fables: Turpin fir'd his Pistol, and it mist Mr. Bayes, and shot King in two Places, who cried out, Dick, you have kill'd me; which Turpin hearing, he rode away as hard as he could. King fell at the Shot, though he liv'd a Week after, and gave Turpin the Character of a Coward. - The Account of Richard Bayes (1739)Some time later, operating under a pseudonym, Turpin stole a number of horses, and was tracked down by the rightful owners of the animals. Committed to jail, he was tried in York, and hanged in April 1739. So, how did he go from real-life thief and murderer to pop-culture hero? Presumably because he was taking from the People Who Had, and therefore appealed rather more to The People Who Had Not than he otherwise might... even if he didn't end up giving to The People Who Had Not, as such. The TV Series A rather exceptional Dick Turpin TV Series ran for four seasons from 1979, with Turpin played by Richard O'Sullivan. In the show, Turpin's family starve to death after being cheated out of their home by the villainous Sir John Glutton. Turpin, now bitter and poor, becomes a highwayman. So I made a custom team and I'm playing franchise mode. I'm projected to have the #1 offense and defense but they're full of shit. My quarterback either over throws or under throws his balls and intentionally throws incompletions and picks. My receivers who have a 99 catching, catch in traffic and carry just outright refuse to catch or maintain possession after the catch which is godamn stupid. My running back can't make 5+ yards after the handoff or gets tackled during handoff OR EVEN TRIPS JUST BY RUNNING BY MY O-LINEMEN. My fucking embarrassment of a defense can't fucking hold the opposing offense back despite using a certain play that would be extremely effective against their them. My o-line can't defend me for long enough for my receivers to get open and when my receivers aren't open I'm left stuck with scrambling but my quarterback is slow BY CHOICE. Motherfucker is so slow that a fat ass d-tackle gets to him before he even gets past the line of scrimmage. Fucking #1 offense and defense my ass bro. E.A really is favoring the AI and making up more and more bullshit as they go along.

I'm really curious to see what they do with the film deal in whale done. Having a movie made about teddy's life would be a big change to the series. There's also the option that it'll be written off as something that didn't work out. I think the second option is more likely because Stuart Gibbs worked in film and knows that most films don't end up going into production so he might just write it out. I think the more likely change to the series would be Teddy and Summers relationship being fully exposed (Summer announced that she had a boyfriend but didn't say who) so it would be more likely that their relationship would be exposed with the heightened media attention.
